About me
Emmie Mason is an experienced English educator with 13 years of teaching experience across both middle and high school settings. She currently teaches 8th-grade English in honors and inclusion classrooms and has previously taught 9th-grade English in honors, inclusion, and self-contained ELL settings. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education from the University of Pittsburgh and is certified in Secondary English.Driven by a passion for helping students become engaged, independent readers, she developed the active reading system featured in this session through ongoing collaboration with her students. The system equips learners with practical strategies that build comprehension and confidence when tackling complex texts, serving as the foundation for her ongoing dedication to cultivating inclusive, vibrant discussions in the modern ELA classroom.
